He wants to make a Halloween pumpkin out of dinner...I say go for it! We set so many unnecessary boundaries, restrictions and rules around our children and forget that we hated them ourselves. If it isn’t causing a problem for you or anyone around you or any being then let them do it. After he was done carving we cooked it and ate a delicious carved pumpkin, seeds and all! Give children control when it’s safe rather than have them take control in heir teens and going wild. Was dinner at 9 pm, yes but so what! My son and I bonded, talked about shapes, talked about knife safety, talked about seeds and texture. He sleds left empty after a beautiful evening of outdoor play. I am reminded of the millions of people who decided to hush their inner child. To conform to a modern society gone wrong. Not me! I will forever live in the moment as a child and feel the wind in my hair as I sled down the hill yelling “weeeeee” as my son races beside me. Getting here wasn’t easy, but so worth it. We gave up a large home, jobs, possessions, dance cars, etc to get to a place where our hearts will shine. I will create a world where you can live with the luxuries of modern society in a sustainable way where money has no value and love conquers all. A dog doesn’t worry about how much sleep they get. They just sleep when they are tired and wake up when they feel like it. I am still working on releasing these old feelings of not getting enough sleep. We are all told how much adults need but I have found that is not about the hours of sleep but the mindset. I wake often at night and used to get upset and now I use the opportunity to write down thoughts, stretch or meditate. I find myself worrying about my son’s sleep instead of honoring he will sleep when he is tired and wake when he is ready. I realize not all families have the blessing of homeschooling but we do the best we can to take the stress out of sleep. By the light of the fire I sit. Thankful for the warmth. Thankful for the combination of beauty and strength. We all have a fire within us waiting to be set free. We hide under masks and past wounds. We can’t always see the sun but we know it’s still there. We can’t always see the light shining in the heart of another but we see glimpses in their eye or in a shy smile. So many people are afraid to shine their light, to be their authentic self out of fear and yet it’s the only thing that will save us! Many of us forgot who we are as we conformed to society’s expectations often as early as middle school. No longer will I hide behind others expectations. I am me and I can only be me. What I believe is what matters as long as it comes from a place of love, empathy and joy. I remember talking to the trees as a young girl, believing in fairies and dancing in the forest. Modern life sucked the life out of me and yet my inner light survived. I am here again to shine, to reclaim my joy, to talk to the rocks and ask them their secrets, to bless the sun as it dances on the waves, to gaze at the moon lovingly as it’s mystery bursts forth. What is silly to you gives me life. Everyone asks me how I get veggies down my kiddo... it’s all about adding veggies to their favorite meals. Gluten free, goat cheese quesadillas with kale, lettuce, pepper and onion. We also did baby led weaning and didn’t introduce fruit till around one after he tried every veggie we could think of. Also leading by example. If we all eat the same thing than he will want to join in.
